Effective date: October 25, 2026
These Lettuceburn terms of service ("Terms") apply when you use the Lettuceburn website (lettuceburn.com) and the Lettuceburn mobile app for iPhone and Android (together, the "Services"). The Services are operated by Lettuceburn ("Lettuceburn", "we", "us"). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use them.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data and is part of these Terms.
1. Not medical advice
Lettuceburn is a food-logging and information tool. It isn’t a medical device, and nothing in the app, on the website or on the blog is medical, nutritional or dietary advice, a diagnosis or a treatment.
- Calorie, macro and nutrient figures are estimates. AI photo analysis, label reading, food databases and exercise burn estimates can all be wrong, sometimes by a lot. Check the results and correct them.
- Plans, targets and insights are general calculations, not personal recommendations from a health professional.
- Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before changing how you eat, especially if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition such as diabetes or kidney disease, take medication, or have, or have had, an eating disorder.
- If calorie tracking starts to feel stressful or harmful, please stop and talk to someone you trust or a health professional. Find A Helpline lists free, confidential helplines by country, including for eating and body image concerns.
2. Who can use Lettuceburn
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, which may be 16 or 18 depending on local law, you may use the Services only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these Terms on your behalf.
3. Your data and the app
The app is local-first: your food log, photos, weight and nutrition data are stored on your device. That means:
- You’re responsible for your device and for keeping a backup if you want one. The app’s JSON export is there for that.
- We can’t restore data stored on your phone if the phone is lost, reset, or the app is deleted, because we never had a copy.
- Delete all data in the app permanently deletes your data on the phone, your server account if you have one, and the meals Lettuceburn wrote to Apple Health or Health Connect. It can’t be undone. It doesn’t remove a transcription or USDA key you added (remove those in Settings), or purchase records held by Apple, Google or RevenueCat. The privacy policy has the details.
4. Bring your own key (the free lane)
You can use the app’s AI features with your own API key from a third-party AI provider such as Anthropic or OpenRouter, or your own transcription key from a provider such as Groq or OpenAI. If you do:
- You’re responsible for your account with that provider, for keeping your key secure, and for following the provider’s terms and policies.
- You’re responsible for all charges your provider bills for your use, including if your key is used by someone else. Providers set and change their own prices. Any cost estimates we give are rough guides, not quotes.
- Your requests go directly from your device to the provider. We don’t control the provider and aren’t responsible for its availability, its results, its charges, or how it handles your data.
- You can remove your key from the app at any time.
5. Lettuceburn Pro
Pro lets you use the app’s AI features without your own key, by sending requests through Lettuceburn’s server.
- Billing by Apple or Google. Pro is sold as an in-app subscription through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Your purchase is also governed by their terms, and they process the payment.
- Free trial. New subscribers may get a 1-week free trial. Eligibility and timing follow the store’s rules, with one free trial per App Store or Google Play account. Unless you cancel before the trial ends (on the App Store, at least 24 hours before it ends), the subscription starts and you’re charged.
- Monthly renewal. After any trial, Pro renews automatically each month at the price shown in the store until you cancel (on the App Store, at least 24 hours before the current period ends). The price is shown before you confirm and may vary by country. If the price changes, the store will tell you as its rules require.
- Cancelling. Cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; Pro stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app or using Delete all data doesn’t cancel a subscription.
- Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. We can’t issue store refunds ourselves.
- Fair use. Pro includes up to 60 AI analyses a day to keep the service fair and sustainable. If you reach the limit, you can wait until it resets (at midnight UTC) or use your own key.
- The AI behind Pro. We choose which AI model Pro uses and may change it at any time to keep the service working well.
- When Pro ends. If Pro ends, your food log stays on your phone. You can keep using every feature with your own key, free.
6. Support the app
Support the app is an optional, one-time tip through the App Store or Google Play. It adds no features, and it doesn’t create any ongoing obligation for either of us. Refunds follow the store’s policies.
7. Optional sign-in and the Friends League
Signing in with Apple or Google is optional. It’s used only to carry Pro and the Friends League to a new phone. The Friends League is opt-in. If you join:
- choose a display name that isn’t offensive, misleading, or someone else’s,
- share your friend code only with people you want to add, and
- remember that friends you add can see your display name, weekly XP, league tier, days logged this week and kudos.
We may change or remove a display name, or remove access to the Friends League, if it’s used in a way that breaks these Terms.
8. Acceptable use
When you use the Services, you agree not to:
- break any law, or anyone else’s rights,
- try to get unauthorized access to our servers, other users’ data, or the systems of our providers,
- interfere with, overload or disrupt the Services, including by getting around usage limits,
- reverse-engineer the app or our servers, except where the law allows it,
- use automated means to scrape the website or abuse the contact or waitlist forms,
- resell, sublicense or offer Pro access to others, or
- use the Services to harass anyone or to upload content you don’t have the right to use.
9. Intellectual property
The Lettuceburn name, logo, app, website, blog content and design belong to Lettuceburn or its licensors and are protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app and website for your own non-commercial purposes, under these Terms.
Your content is yours. Your photos, meals and notes belong to you. When you use Pro, you allow us and our AI service providers (OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to) to process them only as needed to provide the analysis, as described in the privacy policy. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
Food data in the app comes partly from Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database License, and USDA FoodData Central, which is in the public domain (CC0 1.0). The exercise library uses Free Exercise DB, released under the Unlicense.
10. Third-party services and links
The Services rely on, and link to, third parties, including Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Supabase, AI providers and food databases. Their services are governed by their own terms, and we aren’t responsible for them. Links on the website or blog to other sites are for your convenience, and we don’t control their content.
11. Changes to the Services, and what "free forever" means
Lettuceburn is a young product. We may add, change or remove features, and we may change or stop offering the Services. When we say the free lane is "free forever", we mean this: the free lane stays free for as long as Lettuceburn is offered, and we won’t start charging for features that work with your own key. If we ever change the free lane in a way that matters or stop offering Lettuceburn, we’ll give notice in the app or on the website first. If we stop offering Pro, we’ll stop future renewals through the store. The free lane, with your own key, works on your phone without our servers, except for features that need them, like the Friends League and optional sign-in.
12. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the Services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free, that AI estimates or food data will be accurate, or that using Lettuceburn will lead to any particular health or weight result.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Lettuceburn won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Lettuceburn Pro in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim, or US$50 (or the equivalent in your local currency).
Some places don’t allow these limits. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws where you live.
14. Ending your use
You can stop using the Services at any time. Use Delete all data in the app to remove your data, and cancel any subscription in your store settings. We may suspend or end your access to our server features, such as Pro or the Friends League, if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as intellectual property, disclaimers and limitation of liability, survive the end of these Terms.
15. App store terms
If you got the app from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs your license to use the app, and these Terms apply in addition to it. If you got the app from Google Play, Google Play’s terms apply alongside these Terms. If these Terms conflict with the store’s license terms about your license to use the app, the store’s terms win. Apple and Google aren’t responsible for the app, its content or its support; we are.
16. General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don’t enforce a part of these Terms right away, we haven’t waived our right to do so later. These Terms and the privacy policy, together with the app store’s terms for purchases, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services. You can’t transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours as part of a sale or reorganization of Lettuceburn.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date, and if a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or on the website before it takes effect. If you keep using the Services after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
