Lettuceburn is a free AI calorie tracker when you bring your own AI key. That’s not a trial or a stripped-down tier: every feature is included, there are no ads, and it stays free forever. If you’d rather not deal with a key, there’s Pro, which runs your scans through our server instead. That’s the only thing Pro sells.
A free calorie tracker app is only as useful as what it lets you do for free. Lettuceburn charges nothing for photo scanning when you use your own key. Your AI provider bills you a few cents or less per scan, and that’s the only cost.

What "bring your own key" means
An AI key is a password-like code from a prepaid account with an AI company. You sign up with Anthropic (the company behind Claude) or OpenRouter (one account, many AI models), add a little credit, and create a key. Then paste it into Lettuceburn under Settings → AI.
From then on:
- Your phone talks to the AI provider directly. Your photos never pass through Lettuceburn’s servers.
- You pay only for what you use. These are estimates: a photo scan costs a few cents with Claude, so a typical day costs cents, and heavy daily use with Claude can add up to a few dollars a month. Cheaper models on OpenRouter cost a fraction of that. The provider bills you, not us.
- Your key stays on your phone, in its secure storage.
It takes a few minutes to set up once. If that sounds like a chore, Pro is the shortcut.
Lettuceburn Pro
Pro is for people who want photo logging to just work, with no key to manage. Your scans go through Lettuceburn’s server, which stores no photos and logs no nutrition. Here’s what our server keeps.
- 1-week free trial, managed by the App Store or Google Play. One free trial per App Store or Google Play account.
- Then a monthly subscription. The price is shown in the store before you confirm, so you always see it in your own currency.
- Cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play settings.
- Stop Pro and keep everything. Your food log never leaves your phone, so nothing is lost when a subscription ends.
Pro sells exactly one thing: not needing an API key. Prefer to skip it? Bring your own key — free forever.
What’s never gated
Whichever lane you pick, these are never behind a paywall:
- Manual logging and food search
- The barcode scanner
- Photo and label scanning with your own key
- Apple Health and Health Connect sync
- Adaptive targets and weekly insights
- The intermittent fasting timer
- Home-screen widgets
- The Friends League
If you’re looking for a calorie counter app with no ads and no locked features, this is the deal: nothing is held back for Pro. Pro isn’t a bigger plan, just the same app running on our key instead of yours. You can see the full list on the features page, or how scans work on how Lettuceburn works.
Support the app
There’s also an optional, one-time Support the app tip in Settings. It adds no features. Everything works the same whether you tip or not. It’s simply there for people who like what Lettuceburn does and want to help keep it going.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lettuceburn really free?
Yes. With your own AI key, Lettuceburn is a free AI calorie tracker with every feature included. The only cost is what your AI provider charges you per scan. Free forever means the free lane stays free for as long as Lettuceburn is offered: we won’t start charging for features that work with your own key, and if the service ever changes or ends, we’ll give notice first. See our terms of service.
What does my own AI key cost?
You pay the AI provider directly, after a small prepaid top-up. By our estimate, a photo scan costs a few cents with Claude, so heavy daily use can add up to a few dollars a month; cheaper models on OpenRouter cost a fraction of that. Providers set and can change their own prices, so check theirs.
How much is Lettuceburn Pro?
Pro is a monthly subscription that starts with a 1-week free trial. The price is shown in the App Store or Google Play before you confirm, because it can vary by country. Or bring your own key — free forever.
How do I cancel Pro?
Cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Apple and Google handle billing, so deleting the app doesn’t cancel the subscription. After that, you can keep scanning if you bring your own key — free forever.
What happens to my food log if I stop Pro?
Nothing. Your log lives on your phone and stays there. You can keep logging manually, or add your own key and keep scanning photos for free.
Does Support the app add any features?
No. It’s an optional one-time tip for people who want to chip in. Every feature works the same with or without it.
